Kimmo is finished

9 05 2008

For the Philadelphia Flyers, facing adversity is nothing new this season.

The club got a fresh dose of just that on Thursday afternoon, when it learned that all-star defenseman Kimmo Timonen would be lost indefinitely and likely for the entire series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Timonen’s skills and leadership have been evident throughout the Flyers’ impressive playoff run thus far, but they will now have to deal with his loss. Full Story

This is a huge blow to the Flyers, and can really fool up some match-ups they had planned. They would have liked to have Timonen-Malkin and Hatcher-Crosby, but obviously that’s not going to happen. I think it will need to be Coburn-Malkin 100% of the time now if the Flyers want any chance of winning. Stick Jason Smith with Coburn for the remainder of the playoffs, unless Timonen comes back by some unexpected miracle.
